Utterly fantastic! It is pure joy to read something this good! "Poison Garden" has all of the ingredients for an amazing paranormal, Victorian era, steampunk novel. The story is part mystery, fantasy, light horror, comedy, romance, and at many times is downright creepy. It's truly delicious!Elizabeth Watasin captures the language, settings, and time in such a way that you can taste them. The mystery is intriguing and, even if you think you twig to what's going on, you're still in for surprises. It's an exquisite unfolding of a tale.
Elle and Faedra are strong, beloved characters and they are beyond precious with each other. In the first Elle Black novel Elle spent most of her time apart from her wife, Faedra. In this caper, they are together and they're a wonderful tag team.
The two heroines are complex. Elle is a quirky but proper housewife with paranormal gifts. She is the "mousy" one to Faedra's beauty and warmth but Elle is also the more cynical and sexually aggressive of the two which contrasts with her more fragile persona. Faedra is quite the lady but has a penchant for athleticism and lets her mama bear come out when needed which is a delightful surprise. Both women are clever and amusing. I haven't even gotten to the well developed side characters. Just know they exist. :)
Packaged within this very fun novel, there are some pretty profound concepts that stuck to my conscience and got me thinking in a new way. The plot is full and layered but the story is clear.
The author wrapped up "Poison Garden" with complete satisfaction while teasing us with further escapades to come.
This is the second book in the series but it could definitely be read as a standalone.
I cannot recommend this read more highly. Loved it!

Poison Garden An Elle Black Penny Dread Book 2 edition by Elizabeth Watasin Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Wow! You will never ever look at plants the same way again after reading this. It is a fascinating, sometimes creepy read! Elizabeth Watasin absolutely rocked! Go read!!
1) A very wonderful read. I really enjoyed it from start to end. It is quirky and funny and the element of surprise is always behind the corner. I really liked particularly the writing style that put me into the story after a few sentences and left me there till the very end. Well done!
I enjoyed this story of the Mrs blacks. I thought the combination of Victorian England and science fiction well done.
Elle Black is back and this time her wife Phaedra is coming along for a twisted adventure. Elle will go to hell and back for the love of her life.
Characters well written. Plot well developed.
